Interview for Empathy
What is this?
This one-pager explains what the arc of an interview should look like and some guidelines for engaging with an interviewee to truly understand their perspective.
When should I use this?
Interviewing for empathy is a method that should be used when you want to understand the experiences of the people who come into direct contact with public services.
More about this...
Empathy is a central component of human-centered design. Interviewing for empathy goes beyond gathering information; it aims to understand a person’s thoughts, emotions, and motivations. Interviewing for empathy can be used for any interview subjects, but the method will be particularly helpful with those directly affected by a policy, such as a student suspended because of a discipline policy or a teacher getting credentialed in a new state.
