Assumption Storming
What is this?
We all have assumptions about the education issues we research. Assumption storming is a way to get your team’s assumptions out on the table and foster objectivity.
When should I use this?
During the early stages of a project, orient your team to the issue they’ll be investigating.
More about this...
Since all of us went to school and may have worked in schools, it’s easy for us to formulate assumptions about what schools should look like or how teaching should happen. We may also hold assumptions or deeply held beliefs about the role of government, how resources should be allocated, or the importance and urgency of a particular problem. This method is essentially “brainstorming for assumptions,” a way to interrogate your team’s biases about your challenge and get them on the table so you know how they may affect your work.
